You've arrived at a historical time for Australia (1901) - we're now a single nation under the Commonwealth! The Australian states signed for federation in January 1st of 1901 and soon after began working on federal legislations (laws), the first of which fits your journey as a migrant to Australia. The very first legislation passed by Australia was the Immigration Restriction Act and it affected all new migrants to Australia in all its different forms and amendments all the way up till 1973, although began to be gradually abolished from 1945 onwards. This policy wasn't particularly equitable to all migrants though and as such, after its abolition, became known as The White Australia Policy. You'll see why for yourself in just a moment but first, there were two main groups of migrants under the Immigration Restriction Act (White Australia Policy). Which group of people would you like to experience?
