From the Asia-Pacific to Post War Australia
From 1945 to 1958, tensions with Asia and the East were so high that citizenship was all but prohibited to Eastern Migrants. The White Australia Policy was still in full effect. On top of this, several Asian countries were becoming Communist and fear of the Red Army (communist Asia) was powerful in the Australian public. The majority of Asians who entered Australia in the 50s did so as temporary International Students. With the abolition of the dictation test in 1958, it became easier to migrate permanently from the East to Australia but still difficult.
